Follow your heart

Steve Jobs, CEO van Apple Computer en Pixar Animation Studios, hield in 2005 de 114e commencement speech voor Stanford University. Hij brengt een mooie boodschap over het kiezen voor een leven wat je ten diepste inspireert. Iedereen kan redenen bedenken waarom een droom niet is te verwezenlijken. Daar tegenover staat dat iedereen ook de mogelijkheden heeft om dromen uit te laten komen.

"I didn't see it then, but it turned out that getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happen to me. The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything. It freed me to enter one of the most creative periods of my life."

De commencement speech houdt hij tien maanden na zijn genezing van een zeldzame vorm van kanker aan zijn alvleesklier.

"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."
